Thoughts on Life…and Earl Hamner’s Blog…

I know I’ve written here before about attending more funerals than weddings… And it keeps happening. Life keeps happening in the way it does, unfolding in ways we don’t want nor welcome. Tomorrow, I’ll attend yet another funeral. And over on the West Coast, another friend was recently buried, and now a dear friend’s little niece is battling a disease and another friend is readying for major surgery and friends of friends and family members continue their own personal battles.

And you, I’m sure, have your own share of heartache and frustration and concern. And that’s all part of life, part of living. Somehow, to stay sane, we have to be “okay” with that…just in the sense of knowing that life has this huge ingredient, a bitter herb, that’s mixed in with all the good… Try as we might, none of us can make the good seasons last forever. We can choose to have His strengthening joy and peace in the middle of it all, but we can’t make summer-type days stay…

But there is One who does just that… And He is why those funerals won’t be as devastating as they could be… The One who breaks death in two and crumbles it into dust… Sweet Jesus…

I have some friends I’ve made along life’s journey who tell me my beliefs are ludicrous, that it’s ridiculous to believe in a God like Jesus. That it’s “not correct” to say that the assertion of Jesus — that He is the way to the Father — is true.

But how can you deny Someone you’ve met? You can’t, and I won’t. He is. And He’s everything He says He is, the Great I Am. And the Restorer of summer days…

When you have time, click over to my friend Earl Hamner’s latest blog entry titled “Tribute To A Friend” (http://www.earlhamner.blogspot.com/2013/01/tribute-to-friend.html), and sign up to receive his newsletter/blog via email. He’s once again written a beautiful reflection on life…and this particular entry is powerful…and ties in with the theme here…

Be blessed on this winter’s day, everyone…
